All around me stand,
Why must we categorize and divide,
When the very purpose of our country was to unite?
Labels that hurt,
Affiliations that distance.
There is rift between my neighbor,
There is border among friends.
Once I had a brother, who was of a different color,
And that was because we were Americans
Sadly it was not that long ago,
Yet today I do not know
Where the heart of my brother rests,
We do not speak, for everything offends.
And now with talk of wars and walls,
Will the call for unity be heard?
The crying out of a brother… a neighbor… a friend?
